Don’t Get Lost, Odysseus! is one installment in the Mini Myths board book series written by Joan Holub and illustrated by Leslie Patricelli. In this adaptation, toddler Odysseus slips away from his mother to play in an Odyssey themed play area during a trip to the mall. After enjoying himself mightily, he realized that he is lost, only to be comforted by his mother, who had been watching him the whole time. Little Odysseus is initially reluctant to spend time with his mom, but by the end he learns to appreciate the care and security that she offers. The story demonstrates that a little bit of risk is deeply rewarding, as long as the conditions are safe. It also reinforces the importance of paying attention to your surroundings! The last page includes an age-appropriate summary of the ancient myth. – Krishni Burns
